Tree Habitat

Tree habitat depends on aspects of the land, as well as available soil and water.

Eden Valley Woodlands with fall colorsPonderosa pine trees tend to be found on the south hotter, drier aspects of the hills and mountains and Douglas Fir on the north faces.  Of course, there are areas where there are both types of trees.  The Western Larch (Tamarack) needs more water and it is typical to find this tree in draws.  An October fall day will show this trend as these trees' needles turn gold before they loose them for winter. The water loving Aspen, Birch, Alder and Cottonwood can be seen in many of our seasonal water ways and protected draws.
